Courses for adults
Types of courses: in-person or online
In-person courses take place in our building and in cooperating cultural centers in Gdańsk, in rooms designated for groups of 4 or more people.
Conversational courses are designed for those who want to use Spanish freely, without the need to follow a rigid grammatical program. This is an ideal option for those who wish to maintain contact with the language, practice speaking in natural situations, and enjoy conversations in Spanish. We have three levels: A, B, and C.
Teaching levels
The teaching levels of the courses are in accordance with the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) developed by the Council of Europe. Upon completing a given level, the student acquires the following skills:
A → Learning and achieving language skills that allow communication at the basic level

B → Learning and achieving language skills that allow communication at the intermediate level

Duration
The levels consist of courses lasting 30 or 60 teaching hours* and covering the following number of hours:
- Level A1 (Acceso): 60 hours (1 course of 60 hours: A1.1 or 2 courses of 30 hours: A1.1 and A1.2)
- Level A2 (Plataforma): 120 hours (2 courses of 60 hours: A2.1 and A2.2 or 4 courses of 30 hours: A2.1, A2.2, A2.3, and A2.4)
- Level B1 (Umbral): 120 hours (2 courses of 60 hours: B1.1 and B1.2)
- Level B2 (Avanzado): 180 hours (3 courses of 60 hours: B2.1, B2.2, B2.3)
- Level C1 (Dominio): 180 hours (3 courses of 60 hours: C1.1, C1.2, C1.3)
*A teaching hour is 45 minutes.

Methodology
The foundation of our teaching system is communication. Our goal is to develop communication skills. To this end, during classes, we combine various skills: oral and written expression (production) with listening comprehension and reading comprehension (reception).
Knowledge of grammar is also essential for learning a language. In our courses, grammar is not an end in itself, but serves as the basis on which language proficiency is built.
Our instructors use the most up-to-date methodological solutions, motivating students in a pleasant atmosphere to cooperate with each other.
Attendance
Since our courses are largely based on communication during classes and collaboration among students, attendance is crucial. Moreover, to obtain a certificate with a grade from the course, attendance of at least 80% of classes is required.
Certificates
Upon completion of the course, we issue a free certificate of completion to all students who attended at least 80% of classes and passed the course. There is also an option to obtain a paid certificate with the grade achieved during the course. The certificate is issued after the student has ordered it, and the cost of the certificate is 30 zlotys.
Instructors
Spanish is the native language of most instructors at Academia Sombrero in the Zaspa Cultural Center. All instructors have higher education, generally in the humanities. They also have specialized training in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. Some of them are authors of textbooks, dictionaries, and professional publications.
The names of the teachers conducting the classes are not known until the start of the course. Academia Sombrero reserves the right to change the teacher of a given group for organizational reasons.
Cancellation of groups
Academia Sombrero reserves the right to cancel or merge groups if the minimum required to form a group is not met (6 people for standard courses). In such situations, the student has the option to change groups or receive a full refund of the amount paid for the course.
